Those officials said meth use has greatly increased in the area just over the past year or two and is reflected in a greater number of meth lab busts and arrests.

“All of a sudden, we woke up one morning and meth was here,” said St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office Cpl. Catherine Payne. “And it hasn’t turned back.”

Festival of Lights begins Tuesday
12/16/2011

The eight-day Jewish celebration of Hanukkah — The Festival of Lights — begins Tuesday, and special celebrations are planned around St. Johns County.

The festival is observed by the lighting one light each night on a nine-branched Menorah. The typical Menorah consists of eight branches with an additional raised branch. The extra light, according to tradition, is called a shamash and is given a distinct location, usually above or below the rest. The purpose of the shamash is to have a light available for use, as using the Hanukkah lights themselves is forbidden.
